SUMMARY:Retraite Intensive Zen en France
\n(Note: This retreat will be conducted wholly in French.) \nContact et informations: Sam Palmer <retreattothefarm@yahoo.com> \nLes frais d’hébergement doivent être réglés directement à Retreat to the Farm.

SUMMARY:Zen and Money Retreat - with Mark Kuren Westmoquette
DESCRIPTION:This Zen retreat will be led by senior dharma teacher Mark Kuren Westmoquette\, and will be focussed on exploring our relationship with money – a major source of suffering for almost all of us. Drawing on teachings from the Buddha and others\, Mark will guide you through a weekend of reflective inquiry and practical exercises to help you shed light on and transform your attitude to money\, finances and wealth. \nOver the retreat\, we’ll explore the hidden layers beneath our financial lives: the beliefs\, fears and cultural conditioning that shape how we think about wealth\, security and self-worth. By bringing awareness to these patterns\, we can begin to transform our attitude to money from a source of suffering to a tool for awakening. \nWho is it for?\nThe retreat is suitable for all\, from beginners to those with an established sitting practice. \nSchedule\nWe will be following the schedule of a formal Zen retreat\, and our time together will be held in silence. \nThe retreat will begin on Thursday with dinner at 6pm followed by a talk\, and will finish with lunch on Sunday. \nDays will start with Zen taiso (exercise) followed by chanting then zazen (sitting meditation). There will be a period of samu (working meditation) after breakfast\, and yoga practice in the afternoon. Meditation will continue into the evening. There will be regular opportunities for sanzen (speaking 1-to-1 with Mark about your practice). \nCost\nWe do not charge a fixed amount for these retreats\, and instead would suggest a donation of around £100 for the retreat. In case of hardship in making a financial donation please contact us. No one is turned away through lack of means. \nThe accommodation charge is accounted for separately.

SUMMARY:Breakthrough to Zen Retreat (Online\, EST timezone)
DESCRIPTION:The three-day (64hr) retreat is based on the “group sanzen” format developed by our teacher Zen master Shinzan\, together with the dyad work of American teacher\, Charles Berner and current neuroscientific research around what has come to be called “the breakthrough experience”. This creates a uniquely powerful combination. Thousands of students have reported life-changing shifts in awareness. The work is stabilised and grounded through the “naikan” Zen practices taught by Zen master Hakuin and detailed in “Practical Zen”. This retreat format requires no particulaar worldview and has been transformative for people from many spiritual traditions and none. If you are willing to simply face the reality of who and what you are\, you give yourself the best chance of benefiting. This retreat is suitable for those with no prior meditation experience\, but can also be very powerful for those who have an on-going or developing practice. \nThis retreat will run on Eastern Standard Time (EST) to be convenient for people joining in Eastern and Central USA. \nFor more information about these retreats click here. \nWe do not charge a fixed amount for these retreats\, and instead would suggest a donation of between £100-£250 / $130-$330\, depending on your means. \nThings to think about before you commit:\nUnlike for our residential retreats\, in these online retreats the onus will necessarily be on you to create a suitable retreat environment. You will be asked to maintain silence for the duration of the retreat – including at night time. This means having no unnecessary interactions with anyone outside the retreat group (including your partner/family). You’ll need to think about how to make a distraction-free space for the duration of the retreat\, putting aside your normal responsibilities\, making sure you’re in a comfortable space and have easy access to suitable food and a good internet connection. You may want to think about putting the money you would normally spend on travelling to the retreat and on accommodation towards your food supplies. Some people have already decided to rent an AirBnB apartment specifically for the retreat. \nIf you’re new to this retreat-style\, or are unfamiliar with video conferencing and the Zoom platform\, you might want to attend an orientation session with one of our more experienced members before the retreat starts. Let us know when you book and we can organise that for you. \nIf you have any questions or are unsure about anything\, please get in touch.

SUMMARY:Meditation and Mindfulness Teacher Training Module 2 (online)
DESCRIPTION:In this optional add-on module\, you will be taught how to conduct an additional 8-week course in Meditation and Mindfulness for Insight – suitable for those who wish to move beyond wellbeing and into the higher realms of human potential\, whilst still keeping a grounded and energetic approach to life. It follows a similar format to module 1-1. \nThe practices you will learn\, and learn to teach\, are rooted in the ancient Zen tradition and based around developing insight into your true nature – and doing so keeping both feet firmly on the ground. These practices include mindfulness of the breath\, koan meditation (for example\, meditating with the question “who am I?”)\, meditating on the ‘Unborn’\, and a number of energy-based practices for cultivating grounding and stability. \nBeing qualified to teach both 8-week courses will give you greater confidence and depth in your teaching\, whatever format it takes. Note: You do not have to be a Buddhist or have achieved any specific levels in your meditation to be able to practice or teach this course. \nTo attend this course you need to have attended module 1-2 (the compulsory follow-up weekend to module 1-1). \nThis non-residential teacher training course will be led by Zen Master Julian Daizan Skinner and will be taught exclusively online over the following dates and times. \n\nSept 12/13; 09:00 – 18:00  – ONLINE\nOctober 10/11; 09:00 – 18:00 – ONLINE\nNovember 14/15; 09:00 – 18:00 – ONLINE

SUMMARY:Mountain Walking Retreat
DESCRIPTION:This three-day retreat is based in the spectacular Scottish Highlands and will combine traditional Zen practices with mountain walking. Friday and Saturday will involve spending most of each day hiking into high mountain areas (weather permitting) with a shorter low-level walk on the last day. Previous experience of hillwalking is not required but a reasonable level of fitness is essential and some experience of mindfulness and meditation will be helpful. \nOur days will begin and end with meditation\, led by Daizan. After breakfast and making up our packed lunches\, most of our time will be devoted to walking in the mountains together as a group. Various mountain meditation practices and ceremonies will be led by Daizan. Each of the day’s walks will be led by a Penny Clay\, a Zenways mindfulness teacher and qualified Mountain Leader\, who will hold the final decision for route choice on the day\, dependent on the weather conditions. Walks may last for up to six hours. All walks will be on established paths but they are rocky and rough at times with steep drops. Ascent (and descent) may be up to 800 metres in a day – the equivalent of climbing up and down the London Eye six times. \nThe Scottish Highlands are famous for being able to produce ‘four seasons in one day’ and participants must be suitably equipped for a full day in the hills. Minimum essentials include: waterproof jacket with a hood\, waterproof trousers\, thermal layers\, a sturdy pair of walking boots\, hat\, gloves\, water-bottle or flask and rucksack. You’ll be sent a full kit list when you register. \nThe retreat is limited to 12 places. \nArrival time is from 6pm on the Thursday evening for supper at 7.30pm where we will discuss the weekend’s plans. \n“thanks soooooo much for organising this weekend\, I am waiting for my train and smiling from ear to ear – there were almost too many beautiful moments – thank you ” \nPlease note: Participants who may find the mountain walks too challenging are still welcome to attend the retreat and we can offer advice on short local walks in the area but these will not be guided. You will need your own map for this. \nIf you are an experienced hill walker you are equally welcome but be aware that the hill walking is in the context of a retreat experience so you may have to modify your expectations of a ‘big day out’ to fully enjoy the retreat. \nWe ask participants to unplug from social media and messaging for the duration of the retreat\, although you are welcome to use your mobile phone as a camera. \nAccommodation \nOur base is at Glen Feshie Hostel which provides basic accommodation (www.glenfeshiehostel.co.uk). All meals are provided\, including food for packed lunches and will be vegetarian/vegan. We will have a shared work rota to help with food preparation and washing up and we will make up our own packed lunches each day. Sleeping is in single-sex dorms with bunk beds and shared shower rooms. All bed linen is provided but you need to bring your own towel. There are no en-suite facilities. There is a comfy lounge with an open fire\, the hostel is fully heated with drying facilities. Camping is not available. \nCost\nWe do not charge a fixed amount for retreats. Instead we would suggest a donation of £100 – £250 payable to Zenways at the time of booking. Accommodation\, all meals & guiding costs £310 per person and can be booked with Penny at Mountain Yoga Kinlochleven once you have confirmed your booking with Zenways. \nA glimpse from last year’s retreat.

SUMMARY:Sesshin (5-day retreat) - Shinzan Roshi memorial retreat
DESCRIPTION:This 5-day Zen sesshin retreat will be led by Daizan Skinner Roshi. This year we are marking the 5th anniversary of Shinzan Roshi’s death\, and the theme of this retreat will centre around one of his key teachings of “no life\, no death“. \nThe retreat will include still meditation (zazen)\, movement and energy work\, samu (working meditation)\, and sanzen (1-to-1s) with Daizan Roshi. This retreat is suitable for newer and more experienced students who have a willingness to face themselves on all levels. \nWe do not charge a fixed amount for these retreats\, and instead would suggest a donation of between £350-450 (or £200-300 for Zenways members). In case of hardship in making a financial donation please contact us. No one is turned away through lack of means. \nFor the first time we will be offering the possibility to join the retreat remotely via Zoom. However this option is only open to those that have done an in-person sesshin before (with any Zen group) or attended an in-person BZR (with us). Please let us know if you want to join online when you book\, together with a note saying which retreat(s) you have attended before (doesn’t have to be an exhaustive list).

SUMMARY:Breakthrough to Zen Retreat
DESCRIPTION:The three-day (64hr) retreat format is based on the “group sanzen” format developed by Shinzan Roshi\, together with the dyad work of American teacher\, Charles Berner. This creates a uniquely powerful combination. This format is suitable for those with no prior meditation experience\, but can also be very powerful for those who have an on-going or developing practice. \nFor more information about these retreats click here. \nWe do not charge a fixed amount for these retreats\, and instead would suggest a donation of between £100 and £250\, depending on your means.
